Donna and Ross ~ An Ascot house wedding

Thursday, November 25th, 2010

Weddings are all about the moments. I never thought of myself as a “softy”, and most people who know me would probably laugh if I told them about the moments that make my heart flutter or the times I laugh aloud at a wedding.

But at every wedding I photograph, I find that this happens.

I smiled as I photographed Donna and her childhood friend reverting to childhood fits of laughter as they goofed around at Donna’s house. I couldn’t help but get a little sentimental as I captured Ross biting his lip in anticipation as he watched Donna walk down the aisle. Or could I help but absorb the fondness and happiness that came from the speeches from their nearest and dearest friends and family. The feeling of pride and happiness is obvious in the images I captured of the mother of the bride during her speech.

Thank you Donna and Ross for allowing me to capture such a beautiful day and opening a window into your lives.

Donna and Ross had a beautifully relaxed and intimate daytime wedding and reception at Ascot house. Deb Holder conducted a wonderfully unique ceremony in the gardens of Ascot house . The elaborate chocolate tasting which “endured” did not go unnoticed. We enjoyed our Koko Black bomboniere chocolates, thank you!

And this is Laura and David….

One thing is fairly clear. They enjoy each other’s company.

I enjoy their company too…

Writer extraordinaire | Business Portrait

I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a few writers and authors lately. They are always fun people to work with.  Clare was no exception!  Clare has a myriad of talents and is very easy going.  She was very clear on what she wanted and who her target market are, that is the type of clients who she appeals to.  Creatives and relaxed business people were a common theme.  We therefore kept this in mind for the colours we included, what she wore and the environment we photographed her in.

Fiona and Dylan’s rainy day engagement session was featured on Polka dot bride on Friday. If you don’t know about Polka dot bride and you are planning a wedding make sure you check it out as it is full of beautiful wedding inspiration.

Recently, I went up to the sunny state, which, funnily enough, wasn’t sunny!  Despite the unrelenting rain and flood warnings, Fiona and Dylan didn’t shy away from our scheduled portrait session.  When I talked to Fiona on the phone (peering out the window at the drizzly conditions outside), her response was “not a problem, we’ll just grab a couple of umbrellas”. So we did! We danced in the rain!

Toowoomba is on the top of the Great Dividing Range, just inland from Brisbane, and often has days when fog engulfs the town—even right in the middle of the day. It’s absolutely beautiful when you head out of town and you can be surrounded by the beautiful Australian bush, which is just visible through the heavy fog.

Fiona and Dylan, as you can plainly tell, are an energetic and fun-loving couple who are up for anything and everything. They are planning a beautiful vintage-inspired wedding at a historic chapel and manor on the outskirts of Toowoomba, which has spectacular views over the Lockyer Valley. They’ve thought very carefully about personalising the wedding and making sure everyone is included.  I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding in September next year.
