“The process was fun and she kept me smiling.” – Dick

What do you do? Tell us a bit about what you do.

I’m CEO of an IT company called DHCC Australia. We build apps and software, integrate IT systems and provide consulting services. Our customers include Monash University, the Chinese Ministry of Ecology & Environment and Yarra Valley Water.

Tell me about how you got into your field.

I’m 61. People my age working in IT generally didn’t chose to go into it when we finished school or university, but found our way into it during our careers. In my case I started using a personal computer and precursors of the Internet when I was running my own agricultural consulting business. When work dried up for my business during the recession of the late 1980s I helped the cashflow by doing some IT training work at TAFE colleges at night. It time I became a full-time IT trainer, got some qualifications, then started working is software development and various other fields in IT in the private and public sectors. It has culminated in running DHCC Australia.

Why did you choose to have professional profile photos taken and what will you use your portraits for?

When you work in IT the most you care about regarding image is finding a photo for your LinkedIn profile. But when you are a CEO people start asking for good photos. In my case we’ve been nominated for a award and will have an industry magazine article about us. I learned pretty quickly that just cropping a good photo of me playing with my grandson wasn’t enough.

Why did you choose to hire Lizzy C Photography?

We are based in the Melbourne CBD so I wanted someone who operated nearby. I didn’t want a clichéd management photo of someone pretending to give instructions to someone or reviewing a document, and I didn’t want a cliched IT photo of someone pointing at a screen or standing in front of a data centre rack. I chose Lizzy C Photography as she was nearby, had her own studio and was easy to deal with.

Tell us about your experience working with her. Were you happy with the results of your shoot?

It was all painless and simple. Easy instructions about what to bring and wear, lots of choice, the process was fun and she kept me smiling.
