Lorissa and Mick’s Portrait Session

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I met Lorissa ages ago. We kept running into each other at various business events. I always remembered her and recognised her in the crowd, as her bubbly personality and genuine interest in other people and what they had to say was always prevalent.

I was very happy to hear when she told me she was engaged to Mick. I was extemely flattered when they asked me to photograph their wedding and wanted to know my availability so that she could make their wedding arrangements around my availability!

Mick and Lorissa are having a lovely intimate wedding in Queens Park and a reception dinner in Essendon. It is very important to them to keep the wedding intimate and be about good food and great company. I am really looking forward to photographing their special day.

Queens Park ~ Peta and Ben

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Peta and Ben were a ball of laughs to photograph. Peta had mentioned to me that Ben’s fake smile was more of a menacing grimace than a “smile.” So it was to be our mission to capture him acting his natural self and off-guard. Initially Peta talked continually to Ben, making sure he was distracted and unaware of my presence. But eventually they both relaxed into the session and we were able to capture some great photos of them interacting and being themselves.

Peta and Ben are getting married in Trentham. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding now that we’ve worked towards eliminating their wedding photo fears!

Jessie and Rhys Portrait Session

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

It was great to see and work with Jessie and Rhys again, they were a part of Emma and Ben‘s bridal party. It was a fun wedding and we all had a great day! And Now  I’m so excited to be now photographing their wedding. Jessie and Rhys are getting married in the Royal Botanical Gardens with their reception at Terrace Receptions. As their wedding is taking place in beautiful natural garden surrounds, we decided add a contrasting location to take their pre wedding photos in the laneways of Collingwood.

It’s great getting out and about and even though we have worked together at another wedding, an engagement shoot is a great time to get to know each other.

I can’t wait for your wedding day guys, we’re going to have a ball!

Sally and Richard~ Melbourne Museum

Monday, May 9th, 2011

You know when you meet people and you think, these guys could have fun anywhere? Leave them in a padded cell together and you know they’ll figure out something to laugh about. I had that feeling when I met Richard and Sally. Nothing seems to phase these two. They just take it in their laid back stride and enjoy the ride.  To me, it is obvious that they really truly deeply enjoy each other’s company. Now that’s a good place to be, if you ask me.

These are a few photos we took at the exhibition gardens and Melbourne museum of them being them!

Autumn Fun!

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

Today I thought I’d post a couple of pictures from Bonnie and Bill’s engagement session. I’ve included a little animation I put together of Bonnie and Bill frolicking in the autumn leaves. As you can see they got right into it. Nothing stops these guys having a bit of fun!

Bonnie and Bill are an absolutely lovely couple. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding later in the year!

Michaela and Matt’s Urban Melbourne Portraits

Monday, December 20th, 2010

Michaela and Matt are getting married just after Christmas. I only met Michaela and Matt for the first time on Friday. Just over a week before their wedding. Michaela and Matt live in London and are back in Melbourne for their wedding and a brief stopover for Christmas.

Matt almost immediately mentioned that he didn’t really like having his photo taken and found it rather awkward. I didn’t take it personally that he wasn’t too keen to hang out with me…It’s pretty much what everyone says at some point before having their photo taken!

We talked about how partly the reason behind this session is to dispel any discomforts about having your photo taken, and an opportunity to just act yourself and for me to capture just that.

Looking at these photographs. I think their personalities come shinning through.

Michaela and Matt will be my last wedding for 2010. I think it’ll be a great way to end the year!

Melbourne Couples

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

I am a self-proclaimed Melbourne ambassador.  I love this city and I can’t get enough of it. I don’t think I became the ambassador I currently am until I spent five years living away from Melbourne.  This time away made me realise what I had access to but had frequently taken for granted. Despite realising that now, it is still really easy to become complacent about how lucky I am to live here.
There is a running joke between my friends and me that I live in a bubble: a bubble that extends around the inner suburbs of Carlton, Fitzroy, Brunswick and Collingwood. It’s not that I never leave my little bubble, but I do find that my free time can easily be filled without travelling any further afield—coffee at Cavallero during the week, breakfast at Mitte in North Fitzroy on Saturday morning, wandering the design markets on Rose St or the Farmers Market at Collingwood children’s farm .

One of the great things about my job is that it allows me to leave my north-of-the-Yarra bubble, allowing me to see all that greater Melbourne has to offer. Sometimes, I just hop on the tram, cross the river and hang out in the sun with an interesting couple who like the beach. It’s then that I remind myself that I shouldn’t become complacent.

This is Chris and Dominik, more of their photos and story to come…

Couples Portraits ~ Emma and Ben’s extended preview

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Sometimes when I edit my clients images I smile to myself. I smile because it takes me back to that moment; why they are smiling at each other, smiling back at me or smiling at something that has just happened.

When I posted the first preview images of Emma and Ben I chuckled. I laughed out loud. I laughed because we’d joked about how they didn’t have any photographs of the two of them, despite them having been together for years, travelling together and living together. The best one they could recall was one in which they were tiny in the frame and a mountainous landscape loomed over them. So I picked a couple of initial images where they were tiny in the frame! It made me laugh, and I hope Emma and Ben can have a laugh too, because they can be assured there now exists some images where they are the significant subject in the frame…

D & R’s couple portrait session~ Melbourne botanical gardens

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

It feels like this past winter in Melbourne has lasted forever. Even a stint in tropical SE Asia right in the middle of it didn’t seem to ease my chattering teeth; grey winter coats and scarf blustering along behind me as I braved the Melbourne streets on what seemed like continuous cold winter mornings.

But dreary Melbourne winters are well worth it when spring days start appearing. Days when you feel like you have to skip over the shadows and spend every step in the sun. Sunday was one of those days; a perfect day to meet with Ross and Donna and photograph them together in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens. It wasn’t like we were the only ones who thought getting out enjoying the gardens was a great idea. The place was abustle with people and had a definite relaxed buzz to it; perfect for exploring and finding your own nooks and crannies!

The Botanical Gardens is a little bit special to Donna and Ross, as it is the place where they got engaged. Donna and Ross are a lovely couple; always laughing and ever ready with a anecdotal story—my type of people really! I am very much looking forward to photographing their intimate and very thoughtful wedding at Ascot house.

2009 end of year break

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

And that’s all folks….

After today, I’ll be putting my feet up and getting some well overdue R&R. I’ll be out of the office from Thursday 24 December, 2009 until Monday 4 January, 2010 – with the exception of a wedding I’m photographing on the 2 January! My holidays usually involve me shooting overseas and gallivanting around trying to bathe myself in as much culture as possible; but this one is going to be all about putting my feet up, catching up on all the books, magazines and newspapers I don’t get a chance to read during the year, seeing exhibitions, shooting some personal work and putting my iPhone on silent so I can come back to work fresh and inspired to take on 2010!

It’s been a fantastic year and I feel absolutely spoilt to have met and worked with so many lovely people. I wish everyone a fab festive season and I look forward to meeting and working with you in 2010!

All the best,

Lizzy

Shinto Wedding Ceremony Japan | Wedding Photographer Japan

Monday, November 9th, 2009

There seems to be a tendency these days to move away from tradition, especially during weddings.  I think it is almost a shame, especially if you are from a culture which has long standing traditions intertwined within it.

I think that one of the reasons this wedding was really special was the wish for the bride and groom to introduce the Australian guests to some Japanese culture and tradition.

These are some photos from the wedding ceremony I photographed in Japan.  More wedding photographs from before the ceremony can be seen here.

Our Wedding Anniversary

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Tomorrow is our one year wedding anniversary! We’re celebrating with a relaxing weekend at a b&b.

These are a few photos from our wedding day in Melbourne. We had a great day which we celebrated with our close friends who travelled far and wide to make this occasion with us. The wedding had a jazz age theme, including our ceremony and wedding venue which was an old art deco theatre. The highlight for us was the wedding procession which involved Dave and I entering behind a band of brass instrument wielding family and friends belting out a rendition of a cat empire favourite, a surprise for our guests. We have many fond memories from the day and were happy we were able to share it with our family and friends.

B & I’s Wedding Album and Video

Melbourne Wedding Photography

From recent posts you might have seen some of Bill and Irene’s wedding photography. Bill and Irene’s wedding was a beautiful celebration full of music, laughter, family and Greek tradition. Irene and Bill are a super fun couple who are not necessarily the most conventional but their respect for one another and their culture is absolutely inspiring.

Yesterday I spent three hours with Bill and Irene finalising their wedding Album.  I love putting an Album together as this is where you really see the story unfold.

Below are a few pages…

On the day, we had a great team to work with, including Marcus and his assistant Joel from Couch media and my amazing assistant Ryo.  They were married  at the North Balwyn Greek Orthodox Church and had the reception at Leonda by the Yarra.

Marcus put this amazing highlight video together from the day.  I think it captures the feeling of the day beautifully.
