Commercial Portrait ~ Composer/Musician

Friday, June 25th, 2010

David contacted me when he realised that he didn’t have a single photograph of himself! Not one that he could use for some publicity and the PR opportunities that he needed.

David is the brains behind Cloakroom Music. Cloakroom creates original music for commercials, TV, film, brands etc.   David needed some photographs of himself which showed off his creative flair but also appealed to his corporate clients. These are some of the images we came up with…

Commercial Portraits ~ Image Consultant

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Anne contacted me because she was starting a new business and needed some portraits of herself for her website and promotional materials. Anne is an image consultant. As soon as you meet Anne it is very clear that not only does she know her stuff but she is very passionate about what she does! In a nutshell, she works with people to understand what best colours and style they should wear so that you become more confident and comfortable with the image they present.

This is important because, as she states on her website social psychologists have determined that visual presence contributes 55% to the impression we make on other people.

Hint, this may also be a good reason to have great photographs on your website!!

Website and Marketing Images

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010

You can’t help but smile when you talk to Bridget.  She has a lovely warm personality and is obviously passionate about what she does.  Bridget is the director of Fresh Green Clean.  Fresh Green Clean consult, educate and train organisations on green cleaning.  In the process of creating a new website, Bridget realised that she needed good quality professional images to portray her message and what she does to potential clients.  I did a range of photographs for Fresh Green Clean including Bridget’s profile photographs and images she can use on her website and promotional material to promote what she does clearly and concisely.  Because Brigid works closely with people as a consultant and as an educator it was important that her profile portraits portrayed her warm and approachable personality.  Her clients range from large corporates to cleaning companies so it was important to have a range  of images that all clients could identify with.

From what I heard, while photographing her training course and talking to Bridget about what she does is surprisingly fascinating and I’ve picked up a few tip bits to apply when cleaning!

Thanks so much to Julie Sucksmith for teeing everything up for the shoot and helping out on the day too!

Reptile Encounters | Melbourne Photographer

Friday, December 11th, 2009

I can honestly say that no two days are ever the same for me.

It isn’t every day that you get the opportunity to get right up close to snakes, lizards, cockroaches, stick insects, birds, possums, crocodiles and lizards – but I recently met someone who does!

Last week I worked with Josh from Reptile Encounters to photograph his collection of animals for his marketing material.  The images will be used both on the website and in his brochures.  Reptile Encounters run wildlife presentations for kids parties, schools and corporate events.  I can see why the shows are a hit with both kids and adults – you can’t help but be amazed when you see these creatures up close.  I grew up going to the Melbourne Zoo as regularly as most kids go to the local park (thanks to our FOTZ membership!) but it was nothing like seeing all these creatures up close and being able to touch them.

Portrait Photography | Images from Japan

Most often in Japan cities are filled with national chains.  The same coffee shops, restaurants, isakayas (Japanese pub for eating and drinking), department stores and the like can be found in every city.  When I lived in Japan I used to go to one Isakaya which I thought was so individual and cute.  I discovered on this trip, when in Hiroshima 700km away that my quaint isakaya was also part of a national chain.  So that is why it is really cool, when you come across cafes, restaurants and bars which are owner operated and have their own unique individuality.  Quite often you are serviced by the owner who is quite open to a chat over the counter. I think these guys are always pretty cool, becasue they have steped outside the square and chosen to do something quite different in a place where you are often expected to follow the crowd.

These are some photographs I took of a cafe in Kyoto, Japan of the owner Takaaki Matsumoto and his cafe Ichigo Ichie.  It is tucked away in the inner suburban sprawl of Kyoto and is a welcoming front of colour in a sprawling mass of 3 storey apartment buildings.

I meet the most amazing people in business.  Running a business is hard work, it’s really rewarding but it’s really hard work.  That’s why I have to take my hat off to women out there who not only run a business but also have families and kids they need to look after too.

Two women whom I got to meet and photograph recently are defiantly part of that group who are not only doing great things in business but are also have families to contend too.

Elizabeth from La Toriana and Angela from Lambykins approached me for some PR photography for some press releases they are planning to send out. Together Elizabeth and Angela have released an organic range of premature baby clothing. Elizabeth and Angela have been friends for over twenty years, in which this time Elizabeth had three premature babies. From this experience they realised how traumatic it is for mothers who can’t get appropriate clothing for their premature babies. A nurse even suggested to Elizabeth that she buy cabbage patch dolls clothing or get something specially made.

“It was the last thing I needed: my babies were vulnerable enough without seeing them in dolls clothes or over sized hospital-issued garments. I longed to have some nice clothes for my baby that actually fitted and were suitable for the NICU,” Elizabeth says.

The clothing is so soft and beautiful. My brother was 12 weeks premature and I’ve been told all my life about how he was smaller than my father’s hand. I’ve even seen photos. But I still couldn’t believe how small these clothes needed to be for premature babies (the clothing is sized for babies from 800 grams). It was also amazing to see and hold a keepsake doll in the size of a premature baby. So tiny….

I am also very aware how traumatic that time in my parent’s life was, even though my brother has gone on to lead a full and healthy life it was very tough and go for many months for my mother and him.

Angela has added this new premature range to her existing range of children’s clothing and Elizabeth also stocks this new range at La Toriana.

The Hive Event | Event Photographer Melbourne

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Last night I took photographs for the Hive’s monthly networking event for entrepreneurs. The Hive is really cool as it is free to attend, very relaxed and held monthly in Melbourne and Brisbane.  Each month they also have a speaker making it worth going, if you want to get inspired!  Last night was the founder of Flexicar, Monique Conheady.  Flexicar is an awesome car sharing initiative.  Check it out if you are considering a new car, only need a second car occasionally or want a cost effective alternative to Taxis or rental cars.  It might save you money and the added bonus is it’s great for the environment!

Back to The Hive…

The guys had been taking photos of the event on their iphones, which “surprisingly” they weren’t getting images that illustrated the relaxed atmosphere of the event or the crowds they were pulling in.  So along came me… and even though I had an iphone in my pocket, I used my slr to capture a few images (some seen in this post) which I think might better illustrate the event…

Leave a comment if you’d like to defend the iphone’s camera quality!

Business profile photos

Have you ever thought about what potential clients think about you?

Everyone knows that it is important to make a good first impression. So you’ve got the bells and whistles website, a great product and you may even offer personalised customer service.  Then why do your staff profile photographs make them look like escaped convicts, or worse, why aren’t there photos of you or your staff at all? Who is offering this personalised service?

Professional photographs illustrate a professional image. Why would you have a professional-looking website without professional content?

Jane from MIRO (Enterprise Management Solutions) approached me for some business profile images of herself which would provide a tangible face to a largely virtual business.  Above all she wanted her photos to communicate the values of her business including professional, trustworthy, fun to work with and relaxed.  The photos below are a small selection of photographs from her session.

Inner city living | Melbourne Photographer

Monday, November 17th, 2008

If you’ve been following my blog you’ll remember some posts I made of images from a personal project I am working on called “inner city living”. Here is another image which is part of that series.

If you like my personal work and consider it art, fit enough to hang on your walls or to grace a gift/greeting card, then you can purchase it framed, printed, mounted or on a card by clicking on this link Buy art or any of the images on the right hand side of this blog.  Red bubble is actually really awesome, it allows you to buy my artwork at reasonable prices, exactly how you’d like it. You pick the frame, the mount board and even see a preview of how it will look!
