Consultant Business Profile Portraits

Monday, March 25th, 2013

Bernd Schiffer, an IT coach, trainer, and consultant, wanted to freshen up the photos on his website and social media accounts. A newcomer to Melbourne via Germany, he found us through a Google search and he liked what he saw. He says he was immediately drawn to the relaxed but professional style of our photos, and he wanted the same thing for his own sites. He especially liked the environmental style portraits as he felt these people looked interesting to work with.

Bernd told us that his clients are really drawn to his passion for his work. “If I talk about my domain, I’m often so excited that you’d find my eyes glowing,” he said. “This is often infectious, so my customers get excited, too, and we have a very energetic relationship with good outcomes.”

My photo shoot with Bernd was straightforward and relaxed, and we had a lot of fun chatting about his work. Bernd, had a clear understanding of how important it was to have good quality photos of himself to represent himself professionally. I loved that he’d decided to take the photos first and then design the website style around them! It gave me a very open brief!

He had these nice words to say about us afterwards: “I am usually very nervous and uncomfortable in front of a camera, but with all the chatting, the photo shooting was over in no time and I wasn’t stressed at all. When I saw the results I was very happy, since they were much better than I expected. I got a lot of compliments from friends, business colleagues, and customers, which made me even more happy with the results.”

Meet Natalie and Toby. Engagement Portraits.

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Toby has just started a business, which is keeping him very busy, but he managed to sneak away from it for an hour to come and hang out with me and his gorgeous fiancé, Natalie. We wandered along the St Kilda foreshore and soaked up the glorious sunshine. They are both very fond of St Kilda, due in no small part to it being the home of Toby’s new gelati store! They both seemed to enjoy the time out, and Natalie couldn’t help but marvel at things and places “just over there” that she’d never been to!

Getting to know you

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

I like hearing stories. Photographing a wedding day is about telling someone else’s story, but I think engagement sessions are about hearing stories; little titbits I collect and piece together, which gives me some insight about the couple, both as individuals and together. It’s nice when we have a chance to talk, because it gives me a idea of what my clients are all about. It is something that I encourage, because I have noticed that people are more relaxed when they are talking about their passions. But I am also genuinely interested in what people have to say. Stories from people I meet inspire me,  it inspires me to tell their story.

I really enjoyed getting to know and photograph Annette and Daniel. During our session, we talked and walked, and I photographed them as we explored their local park. They pointed out where they walk their dogs, and we talked about how they enjoy the close proximity of their family, and also the renovations they plan to do to their home. Daniel, a builder by trade, has big plans, of which he speaks of passionately.

Small Business Profile Portraits

So I am starting to think that my clients are crazy. I mean that in the nicest possible way of course! I mean I actually rate someone with a little bit of crazy quite highly. As we are all a little crazy, right?

But to get back on track, When Teagan came in for her photo session she told me she didn’t take a good photo. Nothing wrong with that, that is pretty much the first thing every client tells me before I take their photo!

Why do I think she’s a little crazy? Take a look at the photos below! I think they say it all.

In all seriousness though I think Teagan is absolutely lovely and was a pleasure to work with. I loved the sense of calm she brought with her that enveloped the studio and me. Teagan is extremely friendly and has a bubbly personality with a big broad genuine smile. I instantly noticed that she has a sense of calm in her life. For someone who doesn’t have any sort of calm in their life I recognise and envy this quality. I’m sure her connection with meditation and spirituality must have something to do with this.

I think these photos encapsulate her personality.  The feedback from Teagan was also positive!   To quote ” Thanks! Everyone went nuts over the photos. I am really pleased with them.” businessportraits Small Business Profile Portraits

Couples Portraits ~ Emma and Ben’s extended preview

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Sometimes when I edit my clients images I smile to myself. I smile because it takes me back to that moment; why they are smiling at each other, smiling back at me or smiling at something that has just happened.

When I posted the first preview images of Emma and Ben I chuckled. I laughed out loud. I laughed because we’d joked about how they didn’t have any photographs of the two of them, despite them having been together for years, travelling together and living together. The best one they could recall was one in which they were tiny in the frame and a mountainous landscape loomed over them. So I picked a couple of initial images where they were tiny in the frame! It made me laugh, and I hope Emma and Ben can have a laugh too, because they can be assured there now exists some images where they are the significant subject in the frame…

Paper Portraits

Friday, December 4th, 2009

I am a self-confessed stationery addict.  I’m not sure what it is about stationery, but I am sure it’s something you either love or don’t particularly care about.  I definitely love it.  I love to pick it up; I love using big loopy handwriting to write a letter, jot down thoughts or ideas or doodle kid-like illustrations.  When you meet people who’ve made stationary their business, I naturally think it’s a sign of good character.  Matt and Scott of Telegram are just that.  Genuinely lovely, they seem to always have me  in fits and giggles, possibly not because they are particularly “funny” but  they make you feel so relaxed and are so welcoming you can’t help but laugh and have a good time!

Telegram are importers/distributors of paper goods which they carefully hand pick from local and international designers (and even have a hand in designing some themselves).  When I photographed them recently, they were really excited about a beautiful world map they’d commissioned – project they were clearly passionate about. It is so inspiring to meet people who are passionate about what they do.

Engagement photography session | Wedding Photographer Melbourne

Monday, September 14th, 2009

Last weekend I photographed Jovana and Davor’s engagement session at Queens Park in Moonee Ponds.  Despite it being a very warm afternoon the wind was out in force.  However, we managed to find some sheltered areas throughout the park and didn’t get blown away!

Jovana and Devor’s wedding will be in the Yarra Valley later on this year.  It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun, with an importance placed on having a great party! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding.

It’s all about Balance | Melbourne Commercial Photographer

Wednesday, July 15th, 2009

Recently I photographed Kate James from Total Balance.  Total Balance is a boutique coaching and training organisation, who offer face to face coaching in Melbourne and Sydney. Total balance works with a range of clients but Kate works predominately with creatives and people in the well being sector.  I can highly recommend her as I am one of her clients!  She is awesome, becasue she gets how creative people work and works with you towards making sucessful business decisions while keeping to your values and style.  I like that she gets that I am about scribbling on paper and not using excel spreadsheets!

Kate was looking for some new portrait photographs for her website and profile photographs for around the web.  She is often quoted in the media as an expert in her field so she needed images she could supply to publications etc. as well.  She is quite creative herself, which meant she had some great ideas.  It was great to collaborate and work with her to produce images which illustrated her style and personality.

Hanging out with the Crombie Family | Melbourne Family Photographer

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

You know your job isn’t half bad when you come home from and your shoes are full of sand.  How can I not love what I do?

I had an absolutely fantastic morning photographing the Crombie family.  Lovely little Tyler is an adorable kid with a beautiful personality, a definite reflection of his parents!

There are a few of the photos from the session, playing on the beach, flying like an aeroplane and exploring the trees looking for monkeys …
