Clare and Shane, A Terang Wedding

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Clare and Shane live in London but they returned to Clare’s hometown of Terang, Victoria to get married. Terang is a small town about 45kms from Warrnambool and a few hours’ drive from Melbourne.

For a tiny town, Terang has some beautiful historic buildings. Clare and Shane were married in the town’s impressive Thomson Memorial Presbyterian Church.

It was clear that Clare and Shane felt honoured that so many of their family and friends had travelled far and wide to celebrate their wedding day with them.

I, too, felt honoured to be photographing this very special day, as I am Clare’s cousin. It felt very intimate to be given this all-access pass to my cousin’s wedding day!

Couples Portraits ~ Emma and Ben’s extended preview

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Sometimes when I edit my clients images I smile to myself. I smile because it takes me back to that moment; why they are smiling at each other, smiling back at me or smiling at something that has just happened.

When I posted the first preview images of Emma and Ben I chuckled. I laughed out loud. I laughed because we’d joked about how they didn’t have any photographs of the two of them, despite them having been together for years, travelling together and living together. The best one they could recall was one in which they were tiny in the frame and a mountainous landscape loomed over them. So I picked a couple of initial images where they were tiny in the frame! It made me laugh, and I hope Emma and Ben can have a laugh too, because they can be assured there now exists some images where they are the significant subject in the frame…

Snezana and Dean’s Boathouse Wedding

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Last month I photographed Snezana and Dean’s beautiful wedding day. Snezana and Dean met 10 years ago and the story goes slightly differently depending on who is telling it. Snezana and Dean could not be more relaxed. Their wedding day was no different. They picked the most glorious day in June to get married! At this time of year in the southern hemisphere it gets darker earlier and so their reception could continue on from their ceremony we got together and did some photographs before the ceremony in a local park . Dean was priceless when he first saw Snezana. All he said was “WOW” and well I agree it pretty much sums up how amazing she looked. She is gorgeous, isn’t she!?

* Rings: Canturi (Dean) and Rutherford (me)
* Celebrant: Margaret Collier

And an extra special mention to Snez’s mum who made their cake, Veronica who put together the flowers, both their parents, the groomsmen, the bridesmaids and friends Antonella, Lani, Lisa, Allison & Corina.

Toby and Cally~ A Daylesford Convent Gallery Wedding

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

When I think about Toby and Cally, it always make me smile. They are two of the most lovely people with an abundance of energy.  I still remember so clearly when I first met the two of them. We had so many laughs and and conversations which wandered off  on different tangents! I knew their wedding day was going to be great and they sure didn’t disappoint…

I can’t even start to put into words how their beautiful day unfolded but I think Cally’s mum Kate does a pretty good job in this beautiful email that she sent me.

From the mother of the bride,

Hi Lizzy – I just received C and T’s engagement session photos that I ordered. Thanks so much – they are wonderful – so looking forward to seeing the wedding pics! I have had many people say to me that you seemed wonderful on the wedding day. I must say that I myself hardly noticed you were there – and I presume that is the highest accolade – that you were “invisible” and yet noticed enough that we have received commendations on your presence! Wasn’t Cally and Toby’s wedding just the most joyous event? The sheer emotional joy she exhibited – and his joy was just as evident, if more reined in – enabled all the guests to let go emotionally. I don’t think I have ever seen so many men cry at once! I recently asked Cally if going back to every day life was a let-down, and she said no, just being married was just too exciting. So I feel that in this day and age of trying to achieve the perfect wedding, because Cally and Toby actually wanted to achieve the state of being married, rather than wanting a “perfect wedding”, they did actually have a “perfect wedding”. They are extremely happy, and excitedly making plans for their future.  Once again, thanks for your great work. I’m sure we will all be thrilled with the wedding pics.  Thanks, Kate.

A beautiful personal touch were the cushions made by Cally’s mum, each was individual and were given to the guests as a take home gift. She also made the elephants for Toby and Cally, they have a bit of a thing for elephants!

Engagement session

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Snez and Dean are getting married next month and I’m super pleased that they’ve picked me to photograph their wedding.  Recently, we got together on one of those typical four seasons in one day, Melbourne days and photographed them being them for their engagement session.  The engagement session is a great chance for us to get to know each other better, chat about the wedding and have a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera.

The weather was typical for Melbourne, it was cold and windy, then the sun came out, then it rained, and then the sun came out! None of this bothered Snez and Dean though!  They just joked around and we continued on.

This is a small selection of what we got up too… (there are a few more of Snez here)

I hope you like your images guys! Dean I think you did awesome, there is definitely more than one decent one of you! Snez, Dean and I knew you’d look fab! Hope they fit the “bit different” requirements!

Melbourne University e-session | Melbourne Wedding Photographer

Monday, January 11th, 2010

Recently, I photographed Ellen and Tom for their pre-wedding photo shoot (e-session). They picked Melbourne University for their photo shoot because they both met while at Melbourne Uni and are both continuing their studies there - plus it is a beautiful and varied location for photos!

I am usually pretty resistant to using the word “cute”, but these guys really are! Cute in a really cool and self-confessed geeky kind of way. They both put a lot of thought into the shoot, even coming with extra props which related to themselves and their lives together. It is instantly obvious that they really enjoy each other’s company; they pretty much spent the whole session laughing together. I think their wedding day next year will be an absolute ball and I am certain it will be a beautiful reflection of their personalities.

A Yarra River Wedding

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Last weekend I photographed Michelle and Simon’s wedding on the bank of the Yarra. It seems that Michelle and Simon will have a very luck filled marriage, as it rained a fair bit on their wedding day. Despite the fact that they came very close to having to move their ceremony across the river to the Studley Park Boathouse it hardly fazed them at all - a testament to both their lovely and relaxed personalities.  The ceremony was beautiful, and the intermittent rain didn’t bother anyone; everyone just put up their umbrellas and continued on. The sun shone through, right at the end.  It was as if they’d planned it that way.

We got some fantastic photographs around the river and at the Studley Park Boathouse, and it was really only right at the end when the rain started to pour, so Michelle and Simon went inside and continued to enjoy the evening with their family and friends.

My assistant Ryo did a great job protecting the camera gear while I was shooting by holding an umbrella over me- and getting very wet himself! It was almost comical when we were both huddled outside under an umbrella in the rain photographing the rings (last shot in this blog post) and he was holding an umbrella, a reflector and extra equipment. I wish we’d had someone to take a photo of us!

The Bride

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Just thought I’d share this photograph of a bride I photographed at a recent wedding. It was taken just before the ceremony, on the top level of this beautiful private house they’d hired in the Yarra Valley. The estate is set on lush green gardens overlooking it’s own private lake.

Jovana and Davor hired the estate for their wedding so as they could have a truly relaxed ceremony and a great big party which could run as late and as loudly as they so desired!

More from this beautifully relaxed and personal wedding soon.

I think it is fascinating to watch and photograph what couples do before their wedding ceremony. For the girls it is usually a cycle of planned activities, hair, makeup, putting on the dress, talking their parents through the emotions. But for the boys it is usually completely different…

Wedding Photography at Abbotsford convent

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

I thought I’d blog Bill and Irene’s wedding story in Parts… so here is one part, not necessarily part one, but one part of a truly amazing day!

I was thrilled when Irene and Bill thought it was a good idea to do some location photographs at Abbotsford Convent.  They were looking for something a bit different then the well utilised Parliament steps and wanted to avoid the chaos of the city.  I love Abbotsford convent and can be often found in my free time having coffee at the bakery cafe, lunch at lentil as anything or browsing the design markets.  It’s an absolutely stunning location with a great variety of photographic opportunities.  All the photographs in this post were taken at Abbotsford convent.

More about Irene and Bill’s wedding soon….

Their engagment photography session can be seen here.

Engagment session at Fairfield boathouse | Melbourne Wedding Photographer

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Over the weekend I met with Irene and Bill to discuss their wedding and take their engagement session photographs.  We met at the Fairfield Boathouse and discussed their wedding plans, our favourite breakfast jaunts and lots of other random thoughts over coffee.  It was raining but it didn’t seem to put anyone off as the boathouse was bustling with people and the atmosphere was cozy and happening. Despite the intermittent rain, it seemed to clear just as we were ready to head out and the sun actually peeked through for a few of our shots and we had a great session.  Irene and Bill are a real hoot, they weren’t phased at all by suggestions “cheekily of course” to sit on the wet ground or in puddles!… I can’t wait to photograph their Great Greek Wedding Extravaganza in September!

Bill and Irene actually chose the Fairfield Boathouse for their session because they actually went there on their first date! They spent much time chatting on the park bench in the first photograph.

Last weeekend, I photographed Liz and Nathan’s wedding at Rosebank Receptions.  Liz and Nathan were an absolute pleasure to photograph, they are such a lovely, polite and beautiful couple and it just radiates from them.  Liz looked absolutely stunning! She has an infectiously natural smile and to top it off she is also extremely talented.  Liz put together all the flowers for their wedding including the bouquets, corsages and centre pieces! She even went the extra mile and made extra centre pieces so each female guest could take one home.

It’s the personal touches like these that make each wedding unique. Liz and Nathan’s wedding beautifully reflected these personal touches. Both Liz and Nathan’s family have vintage cars which were used as the wedding cars and Nathan’s lovingly restored MG even got to come along.  The rosebank homestead fitted in beautifully with the cars as it was built in approximately the same era.  Liz also wore her grandmother’s ring and added succulents from her mother’s garden to the bouquets and corsages making them that extra bit more special!  signature3 With a personal touch | Melbourne Wedding Photographer
