A Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens & Terrace Wedding

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

I think Jessie summed up her and Rhys’s wedding day perfectly when she said “oh boy, what a great day it was”.

I’d also like to add relaxed, happy and picture-perfect. Jessie had a great vision for their wedding day; working in her own wedding styling business helped it all come together perfectly. She sure is creative; all the details were stunning, even though they were eclectic in nature (excuse the pun!). The colours just popped out and helped create the beautifully relaxed vibe of the day.

The entire day seemed to fly by in a blur. It was nice to slow down and take a wander through the gardens, chatting and laughing with the bridal party, and capturing the mood and the lush foliage that engulfed us .

Jessie had some lovely stuff to say about us too and, well, I thought we may as well toot our own horns and share it with the world!

“Lizzy, you were a great calm to me on the day, I never felt that I had to do anything out of my comfort zone and I was able to enjoy every moment without feeling like ‘oh no, not another photo’, with you easy going and comical attitude you made the day fun for everyone within the bridal party or that met you.

Lizzy is extremely organized, relaxed and professional which I have to say ‘I dont know how she does it’, (especially when you have groomsmen disappearing to cater to another beverage during a group photo session of the bridal party). Lizzy’s assistant on the day, Clara, did a great job of rounding up all the friends and family for the photos, gee that girl can run!”

Thanks Jessie and Rhys!

Notice some familuar faces? A year prior I photographed Emma and Ben’s Wedding (Emma is Jessie’s sister) and you all loved her creative style. We love them both! Together Jessie and Emma are the creative duo behind the styling company “Courting Scarlett”

Lorissa and Mick’s Portrait Session

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I met Lorissa ages ago. We kept running into each other at various business events. I always remembered her and recognised her in the crowd, as her bubbly personality and genuine interest in other people and what they had to say was always prevalent.

I was very happy to hear when she told me she was engaged to Mick. I was extemely flattered when they asked me to photograph their wedding and wanted to know my availability so that she could make their wedding arrangements around my availability!

Mick and Lorissa are having a lovely intimate wedding in Queens Park and a reception dinner in Essendon. It is very important to them to keep the wedding intimate and be about good food and great company. I am really looking forward to photographing their special day.

St Patrick’s Cathedral and Lakeside Wedding ~ Rachael and Brad

Monday, October 3rd, 2011

It was an absolute pleasure to photograph Rachael and Brad’s wedding. They are both just lovely. Rachael is extremely thoughtful and polite. She didn’t have a single frazzled moment  throughout what was a truly joyous wedding day. She just laughed, and enjoyed her wedding day. Nothing ever being too much trouble. And well Brad. He just kept grinning. Grinning with happiness and pride. His beautiful Rachael was now his wife!

Turning up to photograph Rachael and Brad’s wedding was like being reunited with old friends again. So many familiar faces. I’ve now photographed Rachel’s brother, Mike three times! All three times he has been a groomsman. Don’t think we didn’t joke that next time it must be his turn! Rachael’s lovely sister Jess and her husband Chris came over from Dubai to play important roles as Bridesmaid and Groomsmen. I photographed their wedding last year.  It was fantastic to catch up with them again!

Rachael and Brad were married at the amazingly impressive St Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne and had their reception at Lakeside in Taylor’s Lakes.

Erin and Mike’s St Patricks and Yering Meadows Wedding

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Earlier this year I photographed Erin and Mike’s wedding at St Patrick’s in Lilydale and Yering Meadows. The day started off with lots of family and a little bit of chaos at Erin’s parents home. But you could hope for nothing less with four very cute and inquisitive flower girls running around! Everything came together without a hitch and it was obvious that Mike was the happiest man around! I’ve never seen a bigger smile!  After the ceremony we all headed to Yering Meadows and enjoyed the sun setting over the vineyards and surrounding hills. It couldn’t have been a prettier backdrop.

Moira and David’s Sails on the Bay Wedding

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

This cold and dreary weather has me reminiscing about warmer days. Moira and David were married last month on a day the sun surprisingly came out to play.

They were married as the sun set over the bay in a beautifully relaxed ceremony at sails on the bay.  They streamed their ceremony live to friends and family who couldn’t make it and included a reading that a friend wrote specially.

Here are a few highlights from a fantastic day.

Rachael and Brad ~ Studley Park

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

If you’ve got a keen eye, you may think you’ve seen Rachael on this blog before. She has in fact featured a couple of times alongside her sister Jess, as I photographed Jess and Chris’s wedding last year! She came along to their engagement session and was bridesmaid at their wedding. This time however, the spotlight is on her and her fiance Brad!

Brad proposed to Rachael atop the Sydney harbour bridge. He even concocted an elaborate surprise to get her up there! They are getting married in September at St Patrick’s Cathedral. I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding and catching up with the family once again!

Renae and Darren’s Kyneton Wedding at Highbank and the Royal George Hotel

Friday, March 4th, 2011

Roses, laughter, food, family and celebration were themes resonating through Renae and Darren’s wedding day.

Renae and Darren were married at Highbank in Kyneton and held their reception at the Royal George Hotel.

Despite the heavy (and almost torrential) rains the night before their wedding, it stayed clear all day. In fact, the rains just made the surrounding countryside look greener and more lush from atop the hill at Highbank. Renae’s mother is a marriage celebrant and conducted what was a very sincere and emotional ceremony.

Sweet definitely comes to mind when I think of Darren on his wedding day. Not only did he surprise his lovely wife with earrings on her wedding day, but when I first saw him and mentioned that Renae looked absolutely beautiful he agreed without even having seen her! Hearing that almost made me tear up! How sweet is that?

Renae and Darren decided quite early on that they wanted a day that celebrated their union, along with good food and wine. And that they did! Their wedding ceremony was followed by a lavish high tea in a beautiful country setting. Renae and Darren gathered up their nearest and dearest and put on an amazing spread in their beautiful country estate. They had help though; Tonia Todman hosted the day and ensured they didn’t have to dust off grandma’s collection of cups and saucers and make the lamingtons themselves!

At one point I caught Andy, my assistant, digging into a pink frosted cupcake and looking a little faint. I asked him if he was ok and he remarked that the cupcakes were so good they were making him giddy!

Drinks and canapés followed at the Royal George Hotel. The intimacy of the day was maintained with everyone seated at a single long table, upon which many glasses of wine and course after course of delicious food was served.

I am now Kyneton’s newest and biggest fan. It was such a beautiful and relaxed placed to hold a wedding. I can’t wait to return…

Thanks go to all the Kyneton crew who were an absolute pleasure to work with. Caris and Vanessa the florists from Prunella, Melinda Wain the makeup artist and Tonia Todman from Highbank.

Christie and Gary’s Wedding at the Point, Albert Park

Monday, January 24th, 2011

I think it is really nice when I meet a couple who’ve been together for a while but have decided to formalise their commitment: to have a wedding. There is so much to celebrate. The speeches are always really genuine and heartfelt, and there are always so many stories. Others see in them what they see in each other.  Their comfort in one another is obvious and their happiness infectious.

Recently I photographed Christie and Gary’s wedding at the Point in Albert park. Christie and Gary live in Adelaide with their three teenage boys. The boys played a major role in the wedding as Gary’s best men, but it was obvious they also played a significant part on Christie’s side too.

These are just a small sample of photos from the wedding…

Emma and Ben’s “uniquely their own” wedding

Monday, January 17th, 2011

So I was thinking “how I will I title this wedding?”  Will I call it Emma and Ben’s stylish wedding, or their vintage wedding, quirky, cute, Australian or homestead wedding? But I couldn’t put a style to it. Other than it was “Emma and Ben’s Wedding”. As that is what it was; a wedding that truly reflected their unique style.

Emma, who is one stylish designer herself, had put so much thought into all of the details, including sourcing suppliers from Etsy and working closely with them to make personalised everything! Every time I looked around I spotted another amazing detail to photograph.

I loved what made the wedding uniquely Australian: the venue was set on a old homestead and surrounded by beautiful old gumtrees. Emma and Ben’s choice of mixing Australian wildflowers into their decorations matched seamlessly with their surroundings.

Emma and Ben were such fun to work with, and nothing was ever a problem. I was extremely flattered at the effort they went to include us. Ben fondly recalled the story of how he realised our table was missing a ‘crepe poof’ at one of the settings. He worked frantically to make another on the very day he was walking down the aisle just to make sure that we didn’t miss out! Doing this may have also given him further appreciation of how difficult they were to make, and the time Emma had put into all the little details!

I thought I’d post something that Emma wrote to Vanessa, my studio assistant, as I felt the very same way about working with Emma and Ben.

“Lizzy made us feel so unbelievable comfortable, our time with her didn’t make us feel like ‘photo time’ was a chore, it was more like chatting with a friend who was really good at taking pictures of us having a great time. Her interpretation of the feeling we were trying to achieve throughout the evening was spot on – we can’t wait to see her final product!”

This is just a small selection of the photos and the details from their wedding day….

Sara and Nima ~ Emergency umbrellas, two bicycles and some very cool yellow billy buttons

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

Today I bring you a session with lots of laughs, a couple of emergency umbrellas, two bicycles and some very cool yellow billy buttons.

It was a bit of a drizzly day in Melbourne when we headed out to photograph Sara and Nima for their pre-wedding (engagement) photo session. Not that it was any deterrent for Nima and Sara, who seem to have fun in whatever they do!

I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding later this month. They’ve got some great creative ideas which they are going to incorporate to really personalise their wedding day. It promises to be a very fun and relaxed day.

Couples Portraits ~ Emma and Ben’s extended preview

Thursday, October 7th, 2010

Sometimes when I edit my clients images I smile to myself. I smile because it takes me back to that moment; why they are smiling at each other, smiling back at me or smiling at something that has just happened.

When I posted the first preview images of Emma and Ben I chuckled. I laughed out loud. I laughed because we’d joked about how they didn’t have any photographs of the two of them, despite them having been together for years, travelling together and living together. The best one they could recall was one in which they were tiny in the frame and a mountainous landscape loomed over them. So I picked a couple of initial images where they were tiny in the frame! It made me laugh, and I hope Emma and Ben can have a laugh too, because they can be assured there now exists some images where they are the significant subject in the frame…

Snezana and Dean’s Boathouse Wedding

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Last month I photographed Snezana and Dean’s beautiful wedding day. Snezana and Dean met 10 years ago and the story goes slightly differently depending on who is telling it. Snezana and Dean could not be more relaxed. Their wedding day was no different. They picked the most glorious day in June to get married! At this time of year in the southern hemisphere it gets darker earlier and so their reception could continue on from their ceremony we got together and did some photographs before the ceremony in a local park . Dean was priceless when he first saw Snezana. All he said was “WOW” and well I agree it pretty much sums up how amazing she looked. She is gorgeous, isn’t she!?

Engagement session

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Snez and Dean are getting married next month and I’m super pleased that they’ve picked me to photograph their wedding.  Recently, we got together on one of those typical four seasons in one day, Melbourne days and photographed them being them for their engagement session.  The engagement session is a great chance for us to get to know each other better, chat about the wedding and have a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera.

The weather was typical for Melbourne, it was cold and windy, then the sun came out, then it rained, and then the sun came out! None of this bothered Snez and Dean though!  They just joked around and we continued on.

This is a small selection of what we got up too… (there are a few more of Snez here)

I hope you like your images guys! Dean I think you did awesome, there is definitely more than one decent one of you! Snez, Dean and I knew you’d look fab! Hope they fit the “bit different” requirements!
