Last month I photographed Snezana and Dean’s beautiful wedding day. Snezana and Dean met 10 years ago and the story goes slightly differently depending on who is telling it. Snezana and Dean could not be more relaxed. Their wedding day was no different. They picked the most glorious day in June to get married! At this time of year in the southern hemisphere it gets darker earlier and so their reception could continue on from their ceremony we got together and did some photographs before the ceremony in a local park . Dean was priceless when he first saw Snezana. All he said was “WOW” and well I agree it pretty much sums up how amazing she looked. She is gorgeous, isn’t she!?

Snezana and Dean would like to thank the following people who made their day extra special
* Snez’s Dress: Eleni George in Pascoe Vale
* Brass Band: Opa!
* Kieran, Josh, Maelene and Scott from the Boathouse
* Rings: Canturi (Dean) and Rutherford (me)
* Celebrant: Margaret Collier
And an extra special mention to Snez’s mum who made their cake, Veronica who put together the flowers, both their parents, the groomsmen, the bridesmaids and friends Antonella, Lani, Lisa, Allison & Corina.

Snez and Dean are getting married next month and I’m super pleased that they’ve picked me to photograph their wedding. Recently, we got together on one of those typical four seasons in one day, Melbourne days and photographed them being them for their engagement session. The engagement session is a great chance for us to get to know each other better, chat about the wedding and have a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera.
The weather was typical for Melbourne, it was cold and windy, then the sun came out, then it rained, and then the sun came out! None of this bothered Snez and Dean though! They just joked around and we continued on.
This is a small selection of what we got up too… (there are a few more of Snez here)
I hope you like your images guys! Dean I think you did awesome, there is definitely more than one decent one of you! Snez, Dean and I knew you’d look fab! Hope they fit the “bit different” requirements!

For many years I’ve been meaning to enter the AIPP photographic awards. Every year I’ve made excuses, but this year I said to myself “I’ve got to do it” – so I did! It’s a little bit intimidating for a first timer. Basically, you can enter prints into a variety of categories and these are then judged by five professional photographers. The judging is open to the public and the prints can be commented on or debated about. It’s actually a really interesting process to watch. It was inspiring to not only see some amazing images, but to also hear the opinions of five acclaimed photographers as well.
In the end I did really well! I was named
AIPP Victorian landscape photographer of the year
and was also awarded
highest scoring print in the landscape category!
I also scored a silver award for a wedding image. I have posted all of the winning images below.

When I first met Allison and Barney, it was instantly obvious how different their personalities were but how well they complimented each other. Their wedding day was a fantastic reflection of their personalities, connection to each other and to their guests, family and bridal party. Allison and Barney were married on the banks of the
Fairfield boathouse which then flowed into their cocktail reception at the boathouse. As the sun set,
Duck Musique did a fantastic job of entertaining the guests as they sipped cocktails or took the row boats out on the river. As the music floated out across the river and the guests moved around the boathouse, it actually felt like you’d stepped back into a Saturday afternoon in the 1920s. Ally and Barney looked super swish, and Allison too looked like she had stepped out of the 1920′s. When we first met, Ally mentioned her dress would be from
Gwendolynne Burkin. I often stop and admire Gwendolynne’s dresses as Gwendolynne’s store is right around the corner from my studio. Her dresses are amazing and often have a beautiful vintage influence. Ally’s dress suited her perfectly and looked amazing!
Congratulations barney and Allison! It was a beautiful Wedding day that I was honoured to be a part of!

Other businesses who helped Allison and Barney’s day come together so beautifully were-
Flower and decoration stylists: Amos & Smith
Hair and make-up artist: Vivienne Ashworth
The celebrant : Sally Cant
Miliner (Ally’s hairpiece): Richard Nylon
The cake patissiere: Cavallini
Wine: Graeme Miller Wines
DJ -Peter Harrison

Ian and Victoria’s wedding was a lovely way to start the year. It was a truly beautiful and joyous occasion with so much laughter and many beautiful connections. It was immediately obvious that this was going to be a very fun wedding. As we stood outside of Victoria’s hotel room, full of anticipation for the day ahead of us, all we could hear was raucous laughter coming from the hotel suite. Victoria opened the door to a room of people laughing, talking and enjoying champagne. She personally welcomed us in with warm smiling eyes and an infectious grin of excitement – that was the mood and feel for the whole day.
Ian and Victoria had their wedding ceremony and reception at Ripponlea which is a beautiful estate in inner city Melbourne. Ian and Victoria have a fond connection with Ripponlea – it is so close to their home they consider it an extension of their backyard!

Recently, I photographed Ellen and Tom for their pre-wedding photo shoot (e-session). They picked Melbourne University for their photo shoot because they both met while at Melbourne Uni and are both continuing their studies there - plus it is a beautiful and varied location for photos!
I am usually pretty resistant to using the word “cute”, but these guys really are! Cute in a really cool and self-confessed geeky kind of way. They both put a lot of thought into the shoot, even coming with extra props which related to themselves and their lives together. It is instantly obvious that they really enjoy each other’s company; they pretty much spent the whole session laughing together. I think their wedding day next year will be an absolute ball and I am certain it will be a beautiful reflection of their personalities.

I can’t believe I haven’t had a chance to blog these photos from Allision and Barney’s e-session until now. It might have something to do with the fact that I’ve hardly been able to find the time to eat lately!!
We originally planned to do their e-session at Fairfield Boathouse but then we got to chatting; discussing their wedding plans and life in general and, well, two hours later it started to bucket down! We decided that, rather than be heroes, we’d reschedule for the following week at Williamstown.
I am really looking forward to photographing Allision and Barney’s wedding at the Fairfield Boathouse next year. They are a super nice couple who’ve really thought about how to personalise their wedding so it is a true reflection of their personalities and values.

I think the best thing about summer, are the long days and the beautiful afternoon light.
Recently, we took advantage of a long summer evening and photographed Ian and Victoria’s e-session in the fading light of the afternoon at the exhibition gardens. I really like the exhibition gardens, so much that we took some of my own wedding photographs there and I did a fashion shoot there about this time last year. It might seem a bit cliche but there is a great variety of things to photograph. I always completely avoid the stock wedding photographs such as the runway of trees leading up to the exhibition building and go for abstract museum architecture, the charming and established trees or the beautiful grand doorways- as you who have worked with me, know how I love a doorway.
Ian and Victoria are lovely, and will be getting married at Ripponlea Estate next month. They refer to Ripponlea as part of their backyard as they live so close to it. I think it will be great to take their wedding photos in a place they have such a fond connection too. They have also thought out carefully how to make sure their wedding guests are really catered for on their wedding day. They even picked their wedding date so as it most considerate for people who need to travel to their wedding.
I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding next month!

Last weekend I photographed Jovana and Davor’s engagement session at Queens Park in Moonee Ponds. Despite it being a very warm afternoon the wind was out in force. However, we managed to find some sheltered areas throughout the park and didn’t get blown away!
Jovana and Devor’s wedding will be in the Yarra Valley later on this year. It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun, with an importance placed on having a great party! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding.

Last weeekend, I photographed Liz and Nathan’s wedding at
Rosebank Receptions. Liz and Nathan were an absolute pleasure to photograph, they are such a lovely, polite and beautiful couple and it just radiates from them. Liz looked absolutely stunning! She has an infectiously natural smile and to top it off she is also extremely talented. Liz put together all the flowers for their wedding including the bouquets, corsages and centre pieces! She even went the extra mile and made extra centre pieces so each female guest could take one home.
It’s the personal touches like these that make each wedding unique. Liz and Nathan’s wedding beautifully reflected these personal touches. Both Liz and Nathan’s family have vintage cars which were used as the wedding cars and Nathan’s lovingly restored MG even got to come along. The rosebank homestead fitted in beautifully with the cars as it was built in approximately the same era. Liz also wore her grandmother’s ring and added succulents from her mother’s garden to the bouquets and corsages making them that extra bit more special!
