Fiona and Dylan’s rainy day engagement session was
featured on Polka dot bride on Friday. If you don’t know about Polka dot bride and you are planning a wedding make sure you check it out as it is full of beautiful wedding inspiration.
Recently, I went up to the sunny state, which, funnily enough, wasn’t sunny! Despite the unrelenting rain and flood warnings, Fiona and Dylan didn’t shy away from our scheduled portrait session. When I talked to Fiona on the phone (peering out the window at the drizzly conditions outside), her response was “not a problem, we’ll just grab a couple of umbrellas”. So we did! We danced in the rain!
Toowoomba is on the top of the Great Dividing Range, just inland from Brisbane, and often has days when fog engulfs the town—even right in the middle of the day. It’s absolutely beautiful when you head out of town and you can be surrounded by the beautiful Australian bush, which is just visible through the heavy fog.
Fiona and Dylan, as you can plainly tell, are an energetic and fun-loving couple who are up for anything and everything. They are planning a beautiful vintage-inspired wedding at a historic chapel and manor on the outskirts of Toowoomba, which has spectacular views over the Lockyer Valley. They’ve thought very carefully about personalising the wedding and making sure everyone is included. I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding in September next year.

I’ve been working away on Sarah-Jane’s and Adrian’s wedding photographs and I know they are super eager to see some photos, so I thought I’d post some today on the blog. Sarah-Jane and Adrian got married last month on a very warm day in February (which is hard to imagine considering the stormy days we’ve had of late!). They held the ceremony at Kings Domain in the Royal Botanical Gardens and were married by
Deb Holder, who I’ve had the pleasure of working with before. Only after arriving at the ceremony were the guests presented with an envelope containing details of the surprise reception venue – this was just one of the many unique touches Sarah-Jane and Adrian added to their wedding. When the stunning Sarah-Jane arrived at Kings Domain, Adrian presented her with a single rose and they walked down the aisle together. Despite the heat, we all had a great time wandering around the city taking photos, catching trams and even stopping in on a hens party picnic to exchange congratulations! It was a very fun and very spontaneous day! I am really looking forward to getting together with Adrian and Sarah- Jane to show them the rest of their photos!
Sarah-Jane wore a beautiful Mariana Hardwick dress and the cutest flat shoes!

Adrian when he first saw Sarah- Jane’s car arrive!

Last weekend I photographed Michelle and Simon’s wedding on the bank of the Yarra. It seems that Michelle and Simon will have a very luck filled marriage, as it rained a fair bit on their wedding day. Despite the fact that they came very close to having to move their ceremony across the river to the Studley Park Boathouse it hardly fazed them at all - a testament to both their lovely and relaxed personalities. The ceremony was beautiful, and the intermittent rain didn’t bother anyone; everyone just put up their umbrellas and continued on. The sun shone through, right at the end. It was as if they’d planned it that way.
We got some fantastic photographs around the river and at the Studley Park Boathouse, and it was really only right at the end when the rain started to pour, so Michelle and Simon went inside and continued to enjoy the evening with their family and friends.
My assistant Ryo did a great job protecting the camera gear while I was shooting by holding an umbrella over me- and getting very wet himself! It was almost comical when we were both huddled outside under an umbrella in the rain photographing the rings (last shot in this blog post) and he was holding an umbrella, a reflector and extra equipment. I wish we’d had someone to take a photo of us!

I think it is fascinating to watch and photograph what couples do before their wedding ceremony. For the girls it is usually a cycle of planned activities, hair, makeup, putting on the dress, talking their parents through the emotions. But for the boys it is usually completely different…

So if you are wondering why I haven’t made a post lately… it’s because last weekend I got married!!
My beautiful clients have been asking to see photos, and have sent lovely messages of congratulations so I thought I better deliver!
The wedding was all about the jazz age and many of the guests, could have steped right out of the 1920s! We had a fantastic day, we got married here in Melbourne but guests came from all over including Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan and of course many from Queensland.
Ben from Sunlit video productions is putting together a video for us, my fantastic friend Rebecca took the photos, and Melissa from the Ceremony store married us, just the way we wanted!
My mother dried thousands of rose petals and put together my bouquet, Rebecca and Jodie helped me make all the bits and pieces which made our wedding really personal and illustrate our creative flair and Robyn made us the best chocolate cake I’ve ever eaten! Thanks everyone for making our wedding what it was!

To some, the term “trash the dress” may sound scary or even a little crazy! But basically a trash the dress session with me can be as crazy as you want it to be.
Basically, you don’t have to literally “trash your wedding dress”, it might be just a photo session where you can be slightly more daring then you could be on your wedding day.
It gives you a chance to do some photos which might get your dress just a little dirty right through to soaking wet. It’s completely up to you, on how far you go!
Some people say that it can act as a de-stressor after being a bride , others look at it as just great fun and a chance to get some really artistic and different photographs.
Don’t worry, if you are a little bit timid, and don’t want to go “all the way” contact me and I’ll talk to you about how great dry cleaners can be!
We can arrange trash the dress photo sessions with just the bride or the bride and groom.
