Professional Photography for Surgeons – Portrait Session with Dr. Lee at Epworth Hospital

I recently had the pleasure of creating a professional photography session for surgeon Dr. Lee and his colleagues at Epworth Hospital in Melbourne.
Dr. Lee is an experienced endocrine surgeon with nearly 15 years in the field, specialising in the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal conditions. He also works closely with patients who are still exploring their treatment options — a reflection of his compassionate and considered approach to medicine.

Our photography session was designed to capture Dr. Lee’s professional expertise while also highlighting his approachable and empathetic nature. The result was a set of refined, authentic images that convey both trust and warmth — essential qualities for any medical professional seeking to build a strong online presence.

Why Professional Photography Matters for Surgeons

During our conversation, Dr. Lee shared thoughtful insights about the importance of professional photography for surgeons and doctors.
He explained that for many patients, the first impression of their doctor often comes through an online profile photo. That’s why he wanted his portraits to reflect both his medical professionalism and approachable personality — helping prospective patients feel confident and at ease before even stepping into his clinic.

As he put it, “For many prospective patients, their first interaction with a doctor is through these images.”

About Dr. Lee – Melbourne Endocrine Surgeon

What do you do?
I am an endocrine surgeon with special interests in treating patients who may need surgery for their thyroid, parathyroid, or adrenal glands. These may include both cancerous and benign conditions. I also see patients who are unsure whether surgery is the right option after consultation with their GP, endocrinologist, or specialist.

How did you get into your field?
To become an endocrine surgeon, I first trained as a general surgeon through the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. I then completed two additional years of fellowship training in endocrine surgery, along with three years of PhD research focused on biomarkers for thyroid cancer. I’ve now been in practice for nearly 15 years and have established an international reputation through publications in leading medical journals and presentations at international conferences.

Best career advice you’ve received:

“Pursue a career that you are passionate about and find harmony in everything you do.”

Why Surgeons Choose Professional Photography

Dr. Lee shared that he chose to invest in professional portraits because patients often research their doctors online before booking an appointment.

“I think it’s important for my patients to get a sense of whether I’d be a good fit for them,” he explained. “I wanted my professionalism and personality to come through in these photos.”

These portraits are now used across his medical website, professional profiles, and online directories, helping communicate credibility, experience, and trust.

Working with Lizzy C Photography

When asked why he chose Lizzy C Photography, Dr. Lee said:

“I had seen her work on other medical websites and thought they gave a great sense of each doctor’s character.”

Reflecting on the experience, he added:

“I’m extremely happy with the results. Lizzy made the entire process very easy — she has a way of making you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera, capturing genuine images that reflect how you work in your environment.”
