A really common question we get from female portrait clients before a shoot is:
“Should I have my hair and makeup professionally done?”
The short answer? It’s completely up to you.
Our advice is always to keep it simple and natural. If you’re someone who doesn’t normally wear much makeup or spend time styling your hair, there’s absolutely no pressure to start now. Your business portrait should look like you — just a relaxed, confident, polished version of yourself.
If you don’t usually have your hair tszuj-ed up to the rafters or wear a full face of makeup, there’s no need to do it for your photo shoot. The goal is for you to feel comfortable and present — not self-conscious about a look that doesn’t feel true to you.
That said, if having your hair and makeup done helps you feel more put together, that’s a perfectly good reason to go ahead. Just keep it light and close to your usual look, and avoid trying anything completely new on the day — we want you to feel comfortable, not distracted by a hairstyle you’re unsure about.
Also, it’s worth knowing we do professional, subtle retouching on all final images, so there’s no pressure to achieve “perfection” before you arrive. Good retouching shouldn’t be obvious — it’s simply about helping you look fresh, polished, and like you on your best day. So if you decide to come as you are, that’s completely okay too.
The goal is always the same: a business portrait that feels professional, approachable, and authentically you.
